Call for Choreographers | Schools | Studios

January 10, 1995, Joan Myers Brown, Founder/Executive Artistic Director of  PHILADANCO! published the  Directory of Choreographers for Black Dance Companies. At the time, this one-of-a-kind publication was in response to the frequent question for information about “Black choreographers who work with Black dancers or predominantly Black dance companies."  In the same spirit of this publication, IABD wants to hear from you and know who you are.

As the organization grows and expands, IABD continues to bring visibility to the dance community. We can't think of a better way to maintain this awareness than to begin the enhancement of our existing dance directory. Help us to shift the narrative about the lack of Black choreographers, dance schools and studios. We know you exist.

WE ARE SEEKING BLACK CHOREOGRAPHERS AND BLACK DANCE SCHOOLS/STUDIOS FOR INCLUSION IN OUR DIRECTORY.  Don't worry this is only the beginning, we will be conducting calls in other categories as well...

This information will be provided to answer some of the most frequently asked requests for information about Black choreographers and choreography, schools and studios. Artistic Directors seeking to enrich their repertoires and choreographers pursing new opportunities to display their work, should find the directory helpful. Those who are owners and teachers for dance schools and studios, please let us know where you are and what you teach. Everyone in the dance community will benefit from having this information available at their fingertips.

Please complete the questionnaire below and submit it electronically. Information submitted will be reviewed and verified before publication in the directory. The directory is made available to IABD Members at no cost. Others who may desire access to the directory can pay a nominal fee.
