About the Conference and Festival

The International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD) hosts its 32nd Annual International Conference and Festival of Blacks in Dance – THEN NOW NEXT – in Philadelphia, PA from January 14-19, 2020, in partnership with Philadanco!, The Philadelphia Dance Company. Continuing its legacy as the broadest international gathering of Black Dance professionals, agents, artistic directors, artists, choreographers, company managers, executive directors, historians, presenters, scholars, teachers, and many others, the conference and festival remains the most diverse place to share ideas, cultures and experiences.

The Ultimate Dance Experience

A pioneering four-day dance experience where attendees will engage in a multitude of invaluable opportunities expanding their understanding of dance history and technique through Conference and Festival programming that includes an awards celebration, meals and social events, a membership town hall, performances and sessions.

IABD Auditions

IABD offers scholarship auditions for summer programs/intensives and college/university dance programs as well as multi-company dance auditions for professional dance companies in ballet, modern and contemporary dance.

on the 1 | a dance class series

IABD’s on the 1 dance class series presents world renowned dance faculty and celebrated instructors who work professionally in various aspects of the industry for three days of technical training and innovative methodologies. Dancers are able to choose from a variety of genres to aide in their well-rounded approach to artistry.

TAP Philly Style

A day of Tap Classes followed by a Tap Jam featuring Jason Samuels Smith and Dormeshia. Tap classes ranging from Beginner to Advanced levels will take place and all Dancers and Lovers of the Arts of ALL AGES are welcome to participate. This event includes great dancing, music and people. TAP Philly Style is for anyone who knows basic tap steps or who has been tapping for years. Come ready to SHIM SHAM!!!
