Lula and Erwin Washington to receive the Dance/USA Champion Award

LWDTFor their accomplishments and service, the Lula Washington Dance Theatre founders Lula and Erwin Washington will be receiving the Champion Award during the 2018 Dance/USA Conference in Los Angeles. Lula and Erwin have kept this company and school alive and thriving for 38 years and counting. Lula is also one of the five founding leaders of IABD, and their company recently hosted the 30th Annual International Conference and Festival of Blacks in Dance this January.

This awards ceremony will be held on June 6th, 2018 at the Aratani Theatre in Los Angeles. Please register for the Dance/USA conference. More information can be found here.

In addition to receiving the award, their company is being presented by the Ford Theatres to perform on June 8th in recognition of the 2018 Dance/USA Annual Conference. Among the choreographers is Kyle Abraham, who was commissioned specifically to set his dance “Hallowed” on the company. Other pieces to be performed include David Rousseve’s “Enough”; Rennie Harris’ “Reign”, Tamica Washington’s “Always Tomorrow” and Lula Washington’s “Open your Eyes”.
